Matthew Hart Fels is
a film student and the artist's son. He understands the value of sitting for a portrait, and was patient and focused. The face was done entirely from life, and the rest of the painting was completed from photographs, after the initial underpainting was completed from the life sittings. The result is an introspective study, with a coiled energy reflecting youth, intelligence and the interior spaces in a life.
