"Raleigh Dierlam's portrait was a true collaboration between client and artist. Raleigh's mother Diane wished to include a reference to her beloved cousin, so the artist composed the birdcage and butterfly in Raleigh's hand into n atmospheric and colorful whole. The dress was designed by Diane and Suzy, and sewn by Diane's mother Hildegarde. Diane bought the gorgeous hibiscus which became a perfect counterpoint and balance against the red dress and cool background. Raleigh was a great model who seemed to enjoy the photography shoot and sat for the final touches.
This great communication and trust in the artist's creativity yielded one of my favorite paintings ever!"
